Here is a transcript for anyone who may have missed the telephone message earlier today from Donna Kriger, Superintendent of Schools. Also, if you are new to the area and would like to register your child(ren) for school please call 250 804-7824.

Good afternoon. This is a very important message from Donna Kriger, Superintendent for the North Okanagan Shuswap School District, No. 83.

Parents and guardians of North Shuswap Elementary School:

In the face of unimaginable loss and hardship caused by the wildfires, I want you to know that our hearts are with you. You have demonstrated courage and resilience that serves as a beacon of hope during this difficult time.

I want to take a moment to address the concerns and uncertainty that many of you are feeling as we approach the upcoming start to the school year.

I had the opportunity to tour the school facility and grounds of North Shuswap Elementary School on Tuesday, August 21st with Principal, Chris Matheson and members of the district leadership team. I am pleased to share the school has escaped suffering any significant damage. While this is good news, I recognize that many of you were not as fortunate and have experienced significant loss.

There are many questions regarding school start up for your children. I want to assure you that, our team is actively working to find temporary solutions and alternatives until such time when power is restored, and we can reopen the school.

Over the next several days, you can expect Principal, Chris Matheson to reach out to you. He will be attempting to collect information to determine if your families have relocated to communities within our district or if you have chosen to leave the area.

Please know that your children’s education and well-being is a priority to us. We are committed to helping you navigate a smooth transition to a school within a district school that is the least disruptive and most convenient for your family. We understand that some families may need to relocate to other districts and our goal is to support you in that transition, making it as seamless as possible for you.

Communication will be key in the upcoming days & weeks, and we will keep you updated, every step of the way.

Please know that many of us are holding you close in our thoughts and hearts. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our thoughts are with you and your families as you and the community rebuild and move forward.
